De Soto High School National Honor Society Earns National Chapter of Distinction Award

De Soto High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) chapter has earned national recognition for its outstanding commitment to leadership, service, and making a positive impact on the school and surrounding community. The chapter was recently named a recipient of the prestigious NHS Chapter of Distinction Award, recognizing its exemplary efforts to uphold the values of the National Honor Society.

Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, De Soto High School NHS members demonstrated their dedication to serving others by completing an impressive 1,092 community service hours. Students participated in a variety of meaningful service projects, including NHS Buddies, Operation Christmas Child, Adopt a Family, canned food drives, and veterans' baskets. These initiatives provided valuable support to individuals and families while encouraging students to develop leadership skills and a lifelong commitment to service.

The chapter has already carried that momentum into the 2026–2027 school year, completing more than 200 service hours with several additional projects currently underway.

"The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award celebrates chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for—students who don't just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities," said NPA CEO Ronn Nozoe. "The De Soto High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change."

The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award is part of a national recognition program honoring chapters that demonstrate exceptional leadership, effective chapter operations, and a strong commitment to the core pillars of the National Honor Society: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. To earn this distinction, chapters must meet all Essential Standards while demonstrating excellence in areas such as student governance and leadership development.

This national recognition reflects the dedication of De Soto High School NHS members and their commitment to making a difference both inside and outside the classroom. Through their continued service, these students are setting an example of leadership, compassion, and community involvement.

De Soto #73 School District congratulates the De Soto High School National Honor Society chapter on this outstanding achievement and thanks its members and advisors for their continued dedication to serving others.
